Works in Light

Architectural Optics – 2010

Works in Light were projects made as Artist-in-Residence at the Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park in Woodstock, Vermont, an opportunity made possible by the K2 Family Foundation. These installations of Architectural Optics were integrated into historic and contemporary buildings on the 400 acre property.

The two buildings featured here are the ‘Belvedere,’ a combination family room, recreational space, and study for the Rockefeller family, and the Forest Center, an educational conference center built from on-site native materials using sustainable practices and LEED certified design. Jackson’s optical projects make use of the immediate surroundings of each building and the unique interior features to augment and comment on their uses and origins, and to experiment with effects of the views of natural world brought into rooms and workplaces rather than simply being seen outside them.
